HomeMy WebLinkAbout88-66 - Street Closure for Fourth of July HolidayRESOLUTION NO. 88 -66 A RESOLUTION OF NEWPORT BEACH At DRIVE, NEWPORT DURING THE JULY SECTION 21101(e) • THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THORIZING THE CLOSURE OF SEASHORE BOULEVARD AND BALBOA BOULEVARD 4TH HOLIDAY PERIOD, PURSUANT TO OF THE CALIFORNIA VEHICLE CODE. WHEREAS, each year during the July 4th holiday period, huge throngs of visitors come to Newport Beach to join in the celebration and festivities; and WHEREAS, this large influx of persons coming to the beach in a short period of time causes extreme traffic congestion, making it almost impossible for emergency vehicles to respond in this area; and WHEREAS, in past years violent disturbances have occurred in and around public streets necessitating closure for short periods of time; and WHEREAS, Section 21101(e) of the California Vehicle Code enables cities to adopt rules by resolution regulating traffic and authorizing temporary closure of streets for the safety and protection of persons who are to use the streets during closure. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that, pursuant to California Vehicle Code Section 21101(e), the City Council of the City of Newport Beach hereby authorizes the Chief of Police, or his designee, to temporarily close: Seashore Drive, from 33rd Street to Orange Street; Balboa Boulevard, from 32nd Street to 1st, July 2nd, July 3rd, and July 4th, 1988, if in the opinion of 1 West Coast Highway; and Newport Boulevard southbound at West Coast Highway, between the hours of 6:00 P.M. and 3:00 A.M., on July 1st, July 2nd, July 3rd, and July 4th, 1988, if in the opinion of 1 the Chief of Police, or his designee, the closure is necessary for the safety and protection of persons authorized to use the streets during closure. i ATTEST: ADOPTED this 27th day of June,, 1988. .iii /!_�' u
