RESOLUTION NO. 90- 24
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH DECLARING
NEWPORT BEACH COMMUNITY YOUTH
AWARENESS WEER FOR MAY 21, 1990
THROUGH MAY 25, 1990.
WHEREAS, in 1986, the City Council created a Youth Council in
response to community concerns regarding the need for positive
social and recreation outlets for youth within the community; and
WHEREAS, part of the objectives of the Youth Council is to
provide an effective way to organize events and activities for
youth and to promote youth involvement and interest in community
affairs; and
WHEREAS, in furtherance of those objectives, the Youth Council
wishes to increase community understanding and awareness of the
opinions and questions facing youth today and to encourage student
participation in their community and local government; and
WHEREAS, the Youth Council has determined that as an effective
means of promoting youth awareness, the week of May 21st through
May 25th, 1990, should be set aside as Community Youth Awareness
Week.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City
of Newport Beach as follows:
1. That the week of May 21, 1990 through May 25, 1990 is
hereby declared to be the Newport Beach Community Youth Awareness
Week. The following projects are approved to be conducted within
the community:

a. A video to provide view points of the youth in the

importance of recycling and alternatives to reduce waste products.
C. A job fair to encourage local businesses to recruit
teens for summer or part time employment.
d. A Youth in Government Day to provide an opportunity
for local high school students to be involved in our municipal
government.

3. The Youth Council is directed to prepare a schedule for
the proposed projects for approval by the City Council prior to the
commencement of Community Youth Awareness Week.
