RESOLUTION NO. 90-50
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER
TO APPLY TO THE CALIFORNIA STATE LIBRARY FOR
LIBRARY SERVICES AND CONSTRUCTION ACT TITLE II
FUNDS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW CENTRAL
LIBRARY, AND CERTIFYING THAT IF SAID
APPLICATION IS APPROVED THE CITY WILL PROVIDE
THE FUNDS TO DILIGENTLY COMPLETE THE PROJECT.
WHEREAS, the City Council, by formal action of August 28,
1989, has authorized the planning and funding of a new 50,000
square foot Central Library estimated to cost Seven Million Dollars
with funding of One Million Dollars from the Newport Beach Public
Library Foundation; and
WHEREAS, additional funding is needed for furnishings and
improvements for the New Central Library.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
Section 1: The City Council hereby authorizes the City
Manager of the City of Newport Beach to apply to the California
State Library for Library Services and Construction Act Title II
funds in the amount of One Million Dollars ($1,000,000).
Section 2: The City Council certifies that if the
application for Library Services and Construction Act Title II
funds is approved, the funds needed to complete the project are
available, will be provided by the City, and are not contingent on
approval by any body not under control of the City of Newport
Beach.
Section 3: The City Council certifies that if the said
Library Services and Construction Act Title II application is
approved, the completion of the project is not dependent upon
funding from Proposition 85 funds, or from fund raising efforts of

the Newport Beach Public
Library Foundation,
and that any shortfall
in said funding will be
underwritten by the
City.
OR
Section 4: The City Council hereby certifies that if the
Library Services and Construction Act Title II application is
approved, that the project will be diligently pursued to
completion.
