HomeMy WebLinkAbout91-79 - Ad Hoc Historical Preservation Committee• RESOLUTION NO. 91 -79 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH ESTABLISHING THE AD HOC HISTORICAL PRESERVATION COMMITTEE WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach is one of the oldest in the County with a rich and varied history; and WHEREAS, many structures, facilities and locations within the City have considerable historical significance; and WHEREAS, the City Council has indicated a desire to recognize and preserve the City's historical resources. NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Newport Beach does hereby establish the Ad Hoc Historical Preservation Committee to be comprised of the following members by appointment of the Mayor: 1. Two (2) Newport Beach City Council Members who shall serve as Chairman and Vice - Chairman 2. One (1) representative of the Newport Beach Historical Society 3. One (1) representative of the Corona del Mar area of the City 4. One (1) representative from the Balboa area of the preservation and structural rehabilitation • 9. Staff assistance shall be provided primarily by the Planning Department and augmented by other departments as necessary. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Ad Hoc Historical Preservation Committee shall have the following duties and responsibilities: City 5. One (1) representative from the McFadden Square/Mariners Mile area of the City 6. One (1) member from Balboa Island 7. One (1) recognized city historian 8. One (1) local architect experienced with historic preservation and structural rehabilitation • 9. Staff assistance shall be provided primarily by the Planning Department and augmented by other departments as necessary. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Ad Hoc Historical Preservation Committee shall have the following duties and responsibilities: A. Inventory and evaluate historical resources within the City. B. Review mechanisms and make recommendations to promote preservation of historical resources • without resorting to restrictions on or condemnation of private property. C Develop plans and programs for commemorative plaques, historical books and pamphlets, and historical tours of the City. D Make recommendations to the City Council to include historical landmarks in the City of Newport Beach Register of Historical Property. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Ad Hoc Preservation Committee shall cease to exist on June 30, 1992, or at such time as the Committee makes its recommendations to the City Council whichever occurs first.
