HomeMy WebLinkAbout92-98 - Hamilton Water Rake DonationRESOLUTION NO. 92 - 98 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH ACCEPTING THE DONATION OF A HAMILTON WATER RARE FROM MR. AND MRS. REED SPRINKEL. • WHEREAS, Bill Hamilton, a Newport Beach restauranteur, has developed a vessel known as the "Water Rake" which is capable of collecting large amounts of debris from bays, harbors and lakes, and recovers spilled oil and petroleum products from the surface of relatively clam water; and WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach does not have equipment like the Water Rake which is designed solely to collect trash and debris and recover small oil spills; and WHEREAS, the donation of the Hamilton Water Rake will permit the City to accelerate its program of trash and debris collection in Newport Harbor; and WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Reed Sprinkel are residents of the City of Newport Beach, concerned with the problem of trash and debris accumulation in the Lower Bay, and are interested in giving the City the capability of cleaning up trash, debris and small oils spills in Newport Harbor; and WHEREAS, the City, given current budgetary conditions, could not afford to purchase a Hamilton Water Rake, and Mr. and Mrs. Reed Sprinkel have agreed to donate a Water Rake to the City to be used by the Marine Department for bay clean up; and WHEREAS, the donated Water Rake is anticipated to be a much • needed piece of equipment that can be operated efficiently and effectively for many years. 1 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach as follows: 1. The City Council of the City of Newport Beach expresses its appreciation to Mr. and Mrs. Reed Sprinkel for their donation • of a Hamilton Water Rake to the City of Newport Beach; 2. The City Council of the City of Newport Beach hereby accepts the donation of the Hamilton Water Rake from Mr. and Mrs. Reed Sprinkel; 3. The Mayor, City Manager and City Clerk are hereby authorized to execute any document required to confirm the acceptance, or otherwise facilitate the donation, of the Hamilton Water Rake.
