A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH
SUPPORTING THE SUBMITTAL OF A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE ORANGE
COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITYr CALTRANSr AND THE CALIFORNIA
TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF IRVINE AVENUE
REGIONAL BIKE TRAIL UNDER THE 1992 -93 FUNDING PROGRAM OF THE
PROPOSITION 1160 CLEAN AIR AND TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT ACT.
• WHEREAS, Proposition 116 , the Clean Air and Transportation
Improvement Act of 1990, provides that the State Legislature
allocate $20 million in State funds to be made available to
cities and counties for bicycle projects which improve safety and
convenience for bicycle commuters; and
WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach supports the concept of
constructing improved bikeway facilities to improve safety and
encourage alternative modes of commuting which reduce air
pollution; and
WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach desires to construct the
Irvine Avenue Regional Trail and has entered into a cooperative
agreement for the design of the subject project with the County
of Orange; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Newport
Beach hereby endorses the submittal of a grant application to the
Orange County Transportation Authority, Caltrans, and the
California Transportation Commission for all available funding
for the construction of the Irvine Avenue Regional Trail.
