HomeMy WebLinkAbout95-64 - Councilmanic Redistricting Committee• RESOLUTION NO. 95 -64 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH APPOINTING THE CITY COUNCIL APPOINTMENTS COMMITTEE AS THE COUNCILMANIC REDISTRICTING COMMITTEE WHEREAS, Section 1005 of the Newport Beach City Charter requires the City Council, every four years, to appoint a committee to study the advisability of redistricting the City of Newport Beach; and and WHEREAS, the redistricting was last considered by the City Council in 1991; WHEREAS, the Charter requires the City Council to appoint a committee in 1995 to again consider redistricting. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Newport Beach hereby appoints the City Council Appointments Committee to serve as the Ad Hoc Councilmanic Redistricting Committee. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said Committee is charged with the following duties and responsibilities: 1. Preparation of a reapportionment plan with alternatives on establishing district boundaries which, as nearly as practicable, constitute natural areas of contiguous and compact territory; and 2. Preparation of a reapportionment plan which will create districts, containing substantially equal numbers of people, in order to provide fair representation on the City Council; and 3. Report back to the City Council for redistricting the City, consistent with this Resolution. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said Committee shall automatically cease to exist at such time as the City Council adopts an Ordinance changing and redefining the boundaries of any or all of the seven Councilmanic districts, or on September 30, 1995, whichever occurs first.
