Dear Mayor Hill and Council Members,
The Balboa Village Merchants Association (BVMA Inc.) wholeheartedly supports the
passage of Agenda Item Number 2, the Balboa Village Theater - Lease Amendment,
Contribution.
The improvement and completion of the rebuilding of the Balboa Theater is
essential to the vision of the Balboa Village. Its renovation will bring much needed
culture to the city and will provide a keystone to the future success of the area as
well as for all Newport Beach residents, visitors and merchants. Balboa Village
referred to as the "Soul" of Newport Beach by Councilperson Nancy Gardener, is
currently evolving to be an important destination point for the residents and
visitors of Newport Beach.
A successful multi use entertainment venue will inject an important stream of
revenue to the area restaurants, by encouraging before and after event dining.
Shops will benefit from browsing and purchases made. The Theater could very well
help reinstate the glamour and prestige of the Big Band and the Age of the
Rendezvous Ballroom.
Therefore, the Board of Directors ask for your approval of this item and hereby
pledge all of our support possible to help the Balboa Theater open and create a new
sense of place for Balboa Village.
