A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT
BEACH RELATING TO CHARTER SECTION 507 AND THE DESIGNATION
OF MANAGER(S) PRO TEMPORE
WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach is a Charter City with the Council- Manager
form of government; and
WHEREAS, the City Charter's Section 507 directs that the City Manager designate,
and the Council approve, a Manager Pro Tempore to serve as City Manager during the
temporary absence or disability of the City Manager; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager has suggested that the City Council consider approving
a line of succession for Managers pro Tempore to comply with the Charter and in the event
that the City Manager is absent or disabled;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Newport
Beach that the City Council hereby approves the City Manager's recommendation of the
following line of succession to serve in the manager's stead during any time of temporary
absence or disability:
1. Assistant City Manager
2. Public Works Director or Municipal Operations Director
3. Police Chief or Fire Chief
4. Finance Director
5. Community Development Director, Human Resources Director, Library Director, or
Recreation and Senior Services Director
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach that
the adoption of this resolution expresses the City Manager's and the City Council's
compliance with City Charter Section 507 relating to the designation of a Manager pro
Tempore.
