INN NIE��P'OI M, 0 It is illegal to possess or use fireworks in Newport Beach. This includes "safe and sane" fireworks such as fountains and sparklers that can be purchased in nearby cities. Police officers will be out in force this year, actively looking for illegal fireworks. Residents and visitors are encouraged to attend public firework shows, put on by professionals. FOR NON- EMERGENCY CALLS, DIAL 949. 644.3717, Agenda Item No. SS �a '2nld 4th of July is for Families - Newport Peninsula Bike Parade and Community Festival - The bike and dog parade begins at 9 a.m. at 38th Street Park and will head down Balboa Blvd. to Channel Place Park for a free festival including carnival games, jump houses, arts & crafts and food. Participants are encouraged to decorate bikes, scooters, wagons and strollers and to bring their dogs on leashes. The festival will run from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. For more information, please call 949 - 644 -3151 or visit www.newportbeachca.gov/july4. Mariners Park Independence Day Parade & Celebration -The parade will begin at the corner of Commodore & Mariners Drive at 10:30 a.m. and the celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mariners Park, 1300 Irvine Ave. There will be food for sale at the festival and wristbands available for purchase that allow participation in games and activities. Old Glory Boat Parade - The annual "Old Glory Boat Parade" sponsored by the American Legion Yacht Club and the American Legion Post 291 will be held in Newport Harbor, beginning at 1 p.m. For more information, please call 949 - 673 -5070 or visit www.americanlegionyachtclub.com. Fourth of July Coastal Flyover - The Condor Squadron Officer's and Airmen's Association, a non - profit organization founded by a group of WWII fighter pilots, will fly four AT -6's over Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Dana Point and San Clemente on July 4. They will begin over Huntington Beach and expect to fly over Newport Beach between 6:10 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. Thanks to the City of San Clemente for arranging this special holiday flyover! Fireworks Extravaganza - The City is co- sponsoring a Fireworks Extravaganza with the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort, 1131 Back Bay Drive, Newport Beach. The fireworks show will begin at 9 p.m. on Friday, July 4. Newport Beach residents can walk into the evening fireworks show for free. Note: The Dunes has a full day of activities planned on July 4 and will charge for vehicle and bicycle parking and entry. Z�J JULY 4TH FROM 10:30 A.M. TO THE EARLY MORNING HOURS OF JULY 5TH • Southbound Orange Street at West Coast Highway will be closed. • Via Oporto from Via Lido to 32nd Street will be closed. PARKING: • The City Hall parking lot on Finley Ave. will be closed from July 3rd at 5 p.m. until July 5th at 7 a.m. • The public parking lot at Superior Ave. and Coast Hwy. will be closed from July 3rd at 7 p.m. until July 5th at 7 a.m. • On- street and other public parking will be extremely limited in the West Newport area. All residents and visitors are cautioned to park in legal, public spaces or their own, private spaces or garages. Violators are subject to citation or arrest. FIREWORKS It is illegal to possess or use fireworks in Newport Beach. Residents and visitors are encouraged to attend a public, professional fire- works show. ROOFTOP GATHERINGS People gathering on rooftops is a safety hazard that may violate building code ordinances. City Building Dept. inspectors will be working with the Police Department to address those violations. �0 " THROWING WATER BALLOONS, SPRAYING WATER AT PEDESTRIANS, BICYCLISTS OR VEHICLES Throwing water balloons or spraying water at pedestrians, bicyclists or vehicles is illegal. Violators are subject to citation or arrest. BEACH & PIER INFORMATION * All ocean and bay front beaches are open to the public from the hours of 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. (This includes Me areas from the Santo Ana River Jetty to Crystal Cove State Park.) * Crystal Cove beaches close at sunset. * Please swim near a lifeguard tower as ocean currents and surf can be strong, shifting and dangerous. * Portable barbecues are not allowed on any City beaches. • For those that wish to barbecue, fire rings and public barbecues are available near the Balboa Pier and at Corona del Mar State Beach from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on a first -come, first -served basis. Only charcoal may be burned. * The Newport and Balboa Piers are open from 5 a.m. until midnight. • Restaurants are located on both piers and their hours may vary. Public restroom facilities are available at the base of both piers. Loud and unruly parties requiring a police response could result in a citation or arrest for those present, and fines for property owners, tenants, renters and guests. If you plan to host a holiday parry in West Newport, please follow these guidelines: • Limit the number of guests invited and don't allow strangers to attend uninvited. As the host, you are ultimately responsible for the conduct of everyone that attends your party. • Be sure that no alcoholic beverages leave your property. Possession of open containers of alcoholic beverages or consumption of those beverages in public is illegal. This includes alcoholic beverages that have been poured into a cup. • Ensure that no minors consume alcoholic beverages while at your party. • Limit noise and raucous behavior. Keep music volumes low and all speakers indoors. • Do not allow any guest to throw water balloons or spray water at pedestrians or vehicles. • Ask guests to limit their travel in and out of West Newport due to the traffic restrictions. • Be courteous to your neighbors and take your party indoors after dark. Close doors and windows to prevent loud voices and music from disturbing others. • Keep outdoor lights on - it helps deter criminal activity.
