This year's donation will assist in providing the continuation of subscriptions to several online databases; supplement staff for the Literacy Services; continue the YouthNet program which provides access to the Newport Beach Public Library online catalog and several databases to schools in Newport Beach; fund the Sunday Musicale events; and provides funding for several capital items that will enhance the use of the Central Library. Funding of the Young Adult Area The major project undertaken is the establishment of an attractive young adult area in the Central Library. The young adult population (ages 12 -16) is a fast growing segment of Newport's population. The establishment of an attractive section of the Central Library devoted to the research and recreational needs of Newport's youth will reemphasize the library's commitment to this age group and the importance of developing and maintaining reading and research skills.
