RE: Administrative Services Budget Amendment
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve a budget amendment in the amount of $15,000 to the Administrative Services salaries
account, 0611 -7000, and $5,000 to professional services account 0650 -8076.
BACKGROUND:
As a result of the former City Manager's departure, the Administrative Services Department has
incurred unanticipated costs above our current budget. While a new City Manager is being
recruited, we estimate that our department will incur $15,000 in "Acting Pay" for the Acting City
Manager, Acting Administrative Services Director and Acting Administrative Services Deputy
Director.
We have also already incurred $5,000 of additional contract accounting services utilized to fill
staffing shortfalls during this time period. Although no additional contract services are anticipated at
this time, service levels to other departments have been reduced as a result of our position juggling.
There have been no prior budget amendments to these accounts in the current and prior fiscal year.
However, related to this matter, one budget amendment in the amount of $22,500 was adopted
October 12, 1998, to fund the recruitment of the new City Manager by Shannon and Associates to
account 0612 -8080 (Human Resources - Professional Technical Services).

EXPLANATION:
This budget amendment is requested to provide for the following:
To appropriate $15,000 to cover Acting Pay in the Administrative Services Department during the City Manager's absence.
This amendment also requests an additional appropriation of $5,000 for additional contract accounting services
utilized to fund staffing underuns during 'this time period. There have been no prior budget amendment to these
accounts. However, there was one budget amendment related to this matter in the amount of $22,500 for the
recruitment services of the new City Manager in the Human Resources professional services account.
