HomeMy WebLinkAbout05 - Parking Meter Hours of OperationTO: Mayor and Members of the City Council FROM: Public Works Department SUBJECT: ADOPT RESOLUTION NO. 99 -_ OPERATION FOR PARKING METERS RECOMMENDATION: April 12, 1999 CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM NO. s TO ESTABLISH HOURS OF Adopt Resolution No. 99 - _ revising the hours of operation of parking meters adjoining churches on Balboa Peninsula and rescind Resolution No. 94 -32. DISCUSSION: Several years ago the churches located near Via Lido and Lafayette Avenue requested that the City allow free parking at the parking meters near the churches from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Sundays. The hours of operation for the parking meters on Via Lido, 32nd Street, Via Malaga, Via Oporto, Lafayette Avenue and the alley south of 32nd Street and easterly of Villa Way near the churches were changed to accommodate this request. While these meters have been allowing free parking from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Sundays, some of these areas were never included in the resolution authorizing the modified hours of operation for these parking meters. This action will correct the resolution to allow this continued use. Resolution No. - _ also includes the parking meters on the easterly side of 15th Street between Ocean Front and Bay Avenue because of their proximity to the churches in that area, therefore these meters will also provide free parking on Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Respectfull submitted, Pubic Works Department Don Webb, Director By: )l0 ames Brahler Associate Civil Engineer Attachment: Resolution f: \users\pbvAshared \council \fy98- 99 \aphi -12 \parking meter hoursl.doc RESOLUTION NO. 99 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH ESTABLISHING OFF - STREET PARKING METER ZONES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE OPERATION OF PARKING METERS AND RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO. 94 -32 WHEREAS, Title 12, Chapter 44 of the Newport Beach Municipal Code establishes, among other things, on- street parking meter zones and sets the fees for parking in such zones and further provides that the City Council may, by resolution, establish off - street parking meter zones and set the fees for parking in said zones; and WHEREAS, said Chapter further provides that the City Council shall, by resolution, designate the number of coins to be deposited into parking meters, the parking time allowed following such deposit, the hours of the day, the days of the week, and the weeks of the year during which deposits are required and the meters will be in operation.
