SUBJECT: Appointment of City Manager as Voting Member of Metro Cities Fire
Authority Board
SUGGESTED
ACTION: Appoint City Manager
Newport Beach is one of seven member cities in the Metro Cities Fire Authority, a joint powers
authority formed to provide fire and paramedic dispatch service. The Joint Powers Agreement
provides that the governing body of each member agency shall appoint a voting member and an
alternate to the Board. Newport Beach's traditional voting member has been the City Manager,
and the Assistant City Manager has served as the alternate for the past few years. With the City
Manager position now filled, it is appropriate for the City Council to appoint the Manager to the
Metro Cities Board.
