Re: Visitors from Sister City Okazaki, Japan
The City of Newport Beach and the City of Okazaki, Japan, initiated a Sister
City relationship in 1984. In honor of that relationship, Okazaki presented
the friendship sculpture "Nakayoshi," to Newport Beach.
This year is the 15" anniversary of that Sister City relationship. In respect to
that anniversary, Newport Beach is hosting a delegation from Okazaki on
July 25 -26; presenting a celebratory event of the Japanese festival "Obon" on
Sunday, July 25; and re- dedicating the friendship sculpture at its new siting at
. the Central Library, also on July 25.
Today the City welcomes 18 visitors from Okazaki who are here for these
events celebrating the 15'" anniversary.
