Re: Presentation of $125,000 Check from Friends of the Library

Larry Spitz, President, Friends of the Library for FY 1998/1999 will present a $125,000
check to the Newport Beach Public Library.
The check represents proceeds for fiscal year 1998/99 from the Friends Bookstore.
The bookstore has become a very successful operation, staffed seven days a week by
over 100 community volunteers. The continuing success is unprecedented for a City
our size or, in fact, for a city of any size. The Newport Beach Friends' fundraising
. efforts dwarf those of many much larger jurisdictions. The Friends wish to thank both
the donors of books as well as their customers for their continuing support.
The Friends' contribution allows the library to purchase additional materials-
underwrites the library's Summer Reading Program and class visits by 1st and W�
graders throughout the City; and assists in staff development as indicated:
