Remove the adoption of a resolution (confirming weed abatement costs) from the October 25,1999, Council meeting agenda. On August 18, 1999, a final field inspection revealed that all the private properties were in compliance with the City's weed abatement requirements; therefore, no abatement activities were required by the City appointed contractor. This action concludes the weed abatement program for 1999, thus eliminating the need for the second public hearing and the adoption of a resolution scheduled for the October 25,1999, Council meeting. The Newport Beach Fire and Marine Department is appreciative of the cooperation received from the public and is excited to recommend removal of the needed actions from the October 25,1999, Council meeting agenda. BACKGROUND Beginning on April 1, 1999, the Fire and Marine Department began surveying 146 private properties for compliance with Chapter 10.48 of the Newport Beach Municipal Code. Thirty-five properties were identified as non - compliant. Each of the thirty-five homeowners was provided with a letter explaining the prescriptive measures needed to bring their property into compliance. At the June 28, 1999, Council meeting, the members of the Council adopted resolution 99-46 declaring that weeds and other nuisances existed and scheduled a public hearing regarding their abatement. During the August 9,1999, Council meeting, the members of the Council scheduled a public hearing for October 25, 1999, to consider objections from property owners and the Council adopted resolution 99 -57 ordering the Fire and Marine Chief to abate weeds . and other nuisances.
