HomeMy WebLinkAbout12 - Widening of Newport Boulevard - 3000 Newport BlvdDecember 13, 1999 CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM NO. 12 TO: Mayor and Members of the City Council ,3 FROM: Public Works Department PPR0 � t SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF STREET RIGHT-OF-WAY'"ALONG THE NEWPORT BOULEVARD FRONTAGE OF 3000 NEWPORT BOULEVARD NEEDED FOR THE WIDENING OF NEWPORT BOULEVARD RECOMMENDATIONS: 1. Approve the purchase of the property along Newport Boulevard at 30th Street adjacent to 3000 Newport Boulevard for $8,327.20 from Thomas Blurock. 2. Authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to execute the acceptance of a grant deed transferring the property to the City. DISCUSSION: The City has completed the improvement plans for the construction of a new storm drain in Newport Boulevard from 30th to 32"d Street. Additional right-of-way along the easterly side of Newport Boulevard adjacent to 3000 Newport Boulevard is needed to improve roadway geometrics. Mr. Blurock is redeveloping the property at 3000 Newport Boulevard and has agreed to sell the City the needed right-of-way at market value. The City needs a 91.65 sq. ft. sliver of right-of-way along the easterly side of Newport Boulevard just northerly of 30th Street. The value of the right-of-way is based on the $560,000.00 purchase price that Mr. Blurock paid for the parcel. The 91.65 sq. ft. of needed right-of-way is 1.487% of the 6,164 sq. ft. lot area with a proportional value of $8,327.20. Funds are available in Account No. 7181-05100063 (Street Widening Right -of - Way Acquisitions). Approval of the land purchase will permit a roadway geometric improvement at the northeasterly corner of Newport Boulevard and 30th Street. The improvement provides for a smoother transition from the one-way couplet southerly of 30th Street to the two way street northerly of 30th Street.
