HomeMy WebLinkAbout03 - Ad Hoc Harbor Committee Term ExtensionApril 11, 2000 Council Agenda Item No. 3 To: Mayor and Members of the City Council From: Timothy Riley, Fire and Marine Chief Subject: Adopt Resolution to Extend Term of the Ad Hoc Harbor Committee RECOMMENDATION If desired, adopt Resolution 2000 -_ extending the term of the Ad Hoc Harbor Committee another three months until June 30, 2000. BACKGROUND At the Council meeting of January 11, 1999, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 99 -2 approving the creation of the Ad Hoc Committee for a period of one year. In December of 1999, the committee requested three additional months to complete their report and deliver it to the City Council. That request was granted and the committee's termination date was extended to March 31, 2000. The committee has been very active over the past 15 months, meeting twice a month. They would like the term of the committee to be extended another three months until June 30, 2000. RESOLUTION NO. 2000 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH EXTENDING THE TENURE OF THE AD HOC HARBOR COMMITTEE. WHEREAS, Newport Harbor is the major element establishing the unique attractiveness of Newport; and WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to maintain now and in the future the recreational and scenic qualities of Newport Harbor and assure that its operations do not impact the unique attractiveness of Newport Harbor; and WHEREAS, the City Council appointed an Advisory Committee to the City Council to make recommendations on matters pertaining to the operations of Newport Harbor; and WHEREAS, the Advisory Committee was scheduled to sunset on March 31, 2000, and WHEREAS, the City Council deems it desirable to extend the tenure of the Advisory Committee until June 30, 2000, in order to complete their deliberations and recommendations. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach that the Harbor Committee established by Resolution No. 99 is extended until June 30, 2000. ADOPTED, this day of 2000.
