OWNER. Jim Navai, Newport Beach GENERAL PLAN: Single Family Detached ZONE: R -1 CITY ACTION: Planning Commission Denial on May 18, 2000 APPEAL FILED: May 31, 2000 HEARING REQUIRED: Within 30 days if appeal filing or prior to June 30, 2000 RECOMMENDED ACTION: Open the Public Hearing and Continue the item to July 25, 2000 at the request of the appellant. Discussion The appellant and property owner, Mr. Navai, requests that the hearing on the Planning Commission's denial of Variance No. 1237 be continued to July 25, 2000, so he can consider legal and design options. The Municipal Code requires that an appeal hearing be scheduled within 30 days of the filing of an appeal which has been complied with. Continuance of tonight's hearing is acceptable as the Municipal Code does not require a decision on the appeal within 30 days. Staff recommends that the City Council grant the request for a continuance to permit Mr. Navai additional time to consider other options. Submitted by: PATRICIA L. We oppose the above variance application for a "second story addition ". The existing structure already has 2 stories: one story at street level and one story below street level. When we added a second story to our own house, we were required to conform to the height limit as have others on our street.
