SUBJECT: SAN MIGUEL DRIVE FROM SAN JOAQUIN HILLS ROAD TO FORD
ROAD - AWARD OF CONTRACT NO. 3374
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Approve the plans and specifications.
2. Award Contract No. 3374 (Federal Project No. STPL 5151 (013)) to All American
Asphalt for the Total Bid Price of $715,051.18, and authorize the Mayor and the
City Clerk to execute the contract.
3. Establish an amount of $71,500.00 to cover the cost for testing and unforeseen
work.
DISCUSSION:
At 11:00 A.M on July 10, 2001, the City Clerk opened and read the following bids for
this project:

The low total bid amount is 11 percent below the Engineer's Estimate of $799,000.00.
The disparity between the Engineer's Estimate and the Low bidder's bid amount is due
to lower asphalt prices and increased competition between contractors. The low bidder,
All American Asphalt, possesses a General Classification A contractor's license as
required by the project specifications. All American Asphalt has satisfactorily completed
similar projects for the City.

This project consists of removal and replacement of deteriorated sidewalk, median curb,
median mow strip, curb access ramps, curb and gutter, and street pavement. This
project was approved by the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) and
Caltrans for federal funds through the Arterial Highway Rehabilitation Program (AHRP)
funding.
There are sufficient funds available in the following account for the work:
