HomeMy WebLinkAboutP3 - Cultural Arts Grants for FY 2001-2002City Council Presentation August 14, 2001 COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT Arts li Cultural - Library - Recreation - Seniors To: Mayor and Members of City Council From: City Arts Commission Re: Presentation of Cultural Arts Grants - FY 2001/02 The following awards, totaling $34,000, were recommended by the City Arts Commission and approved by the City Council on July 24, 2001. The Chair of the City Arts Commission and representatives from the following cultural arts organizations will be present at the August 14, 2001, City Council meeting, for presentation of these grants. BALBOA PERFORMING ARTS THEATRE FOUNDATION $1,700 One musical history performance at Corona del Mar High School. BALLET MONTMARTRE $2,000 One dance education /outreach performance in three Newport Beach elementary schools. BALLET PACIFICA $3,000 Performance costs and auditorium rental fees at Newport Harbor High School for second and third grade students. FESTIVAL BALLET THEATRE $1,000 One performance at three schools. LAGUNA PLAYHOUSE $1,200 Two performances of THEATREREACH for elementary school students and their families. NEWPORT BEACH FILM FESTIVAL $3,000 Honoraria, materials /transportation for the two -day filmmakers seminar series held during the festival. NEWPORT HARBOR NAUTICAL MUSEUM $1,125 Educational materials and honoraria for three lectures about nautical art to adults. ORANGE COUNTY MUSEUM OF ART $6,500 "Art in the Museum" project for grades 2 -12. PACIFIC CHORALE $1,000 One performance of "Sound on Site" at elementary schools. PACIFIC SYMPHONY $2,000 One performance at the Newport Beach Central Library. PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY OF ORANGE COUNTY $2,875 Performance of "Meet the Musicians" for grades 4 -6 in Newport Beach. SOUTH COAST REPERTORY THEATRE $3,000 Four "Eddy Tour" performances in Newport Beach elementary schools. Presentation of Cultural Arts Grants - FY 2001/02 Page 2 SOUTHLAND OPERA $600 One presentation of "Operetta! A World Tour" at the Central Library. STOP -GAP $3,000 Five interactive educational presentations for grades 3 -12. WILLIAM HALL MASTER CHORALE $2,000 Two performances in elementary schools. $34,000 The additional $6,000 authorized will be used for expanded teacher and parent training sessions, art related lectures, and hands on art workshops for children administered by the City Arts Commission.
