Re: Presentation of $142,000 Check from Friends of the Library
Patty Lillegraven, President, Friends of the Library for FY 2000/01 will present a
$142,000 check to the Newport Beach Public Library. Also present will be Gary
Mueller, President of the Friends of the Library for FY 2001 /02.
The check represents proceeds from sales in the Friends Bookstore during FY 2000/01.
The bookstore has become a very successful operation, staffed seven days a week by
over 100 community volunteers. The continuing success is unprecedented for a City
our size or, in fact, for a city of any size. The Newport Beach Friends' fundraising
efforts dwarf those of many much larger jurisdictions.
The Friends wish to thank both the donors of books as well as their customers for
their continuing support.
The Friends' gift will enable the library to fund the following:
Children's book collection
Children's audiovisual materials
Young Adult book collection
DVD Collection at all 4 libraries
Audio Books
Popular, high interest titles for all libraries
Book Bags
Literacy
Summer Reading Program for Youth
Summer Reading program for Adults
Transportation to the library for school visits for Vt and 4`F grades
Transportation to the library for school visits for middle and high schools
Books as incentive gifts to Vt graders for school visits to the library
