SUBJECT: Recommendation from General Plan Update Committee on
Community Outreach Vision Festival
SUGGESTED
ACTION: Accept the recommendation of the General Plan Update Committee and
set the General Plan Vision Festival for January 12, 2002.
As part of the General Plan Visioning Process, the General Plan Update Committee has been
considering the best date for the Vision Festival, the official kick -off of the public participation
process. Originally, the Committee determined that the best date would be November 3, 2001, in
order start the process as quickly as possible and make progress early.
At their last meeting on August 27 ", the Committee reconsidered this recommendation. The
discussion focused on two concerns, the potential for the process to lose energy over the holiday
and concern about the proximity to the November special election. The Committee concluded
that it would be better to commence after the holidays, in order to keep peoples' energy and
interest in the visioning process by conducting it in a tight sequential timeffame. This
recommendation was made by unanimous vote of the members present.
