Re: Approval of Contract for Purchase of Public Access Computers
RECOMMENDATION
Approve the bid in the amount of $40,603.63, for the purchase of 53 computers from
Dell Marketing L.P. to replace computers used for the public in the Newport Beach
Public Library system.
DISCUSSION
This purchase is the third and final phase in the total upgrade of the hardware and
software of the online systems of the Newport Beach Public Library. The original
system was installed in 1988, with system hardware replacement in 1994 at the time
of the opening of the Central Library.
Phase one of the current upgrade included the replacement of the primary server
with a high -end L Class HP server and HP Disk Array in November 2000. The library
completed phase two of the upgrade in November 2001 with the installation of the
new online catalog system and redesign of the library web page.
This final phase consists of the replacement of 53 computers used by the public in the
Libraries. The resulting computer distribution for public use will be:
• Balboa Branch 8
• Central Library 50
• Corona del Mar Branch 5
• Mariners Branch 11
Three firms responded to the bid request:
• Dell Marketing L.P. $40,603.42
• Epixtech,Inc. $44,949,97
• Sterling Computers $53,338.41
It is recommended that the award go to Dell Marketing L.P., the lowest bidder.
Funds will be expended from the following accounts:
850 -8512 $32,634 Ackerman Funds to be utilized for Technology
7271- C4009617 7.970 CIP Fund for Computer Technology Program
