Assistant City Manager iel in measures that can work." Mr. Krotee's Marian Bergeson Senator (Retired) March 27, 2002 Tod Ridgeway, Mayor City of Newport Beach 3300 Newport Blvd. Newport Beach, 9 63 Dear Ma ay: Regrettably, I must resign from the General Plan Advisory Committee. Because of scheduling conflicts I find I will miss several of the meetings and since continuity is so important it would be best to have a replacement made early in the process. I commend you for seeking extensive community input. The issues and solutions we face in Newport Beach require strong leadership... best developed through effective communication. The GPAC helps to serve this worthy purpose. As a strong proponent of representative government, I feel we have elected Council members that will provide that leadership. We must have confidence that the process of governing is open and fair with clearly established objectives that address the economic, social, educational, and environmental needs of our citizens. I did not support the Greenlight Initiative because I felt it was in violation of this long held faith in representative government, it should not be an issue of growth Vs no- growth but how should a city adapt to ever changing needs, provide the infrastructure, services and the vision of what its' future should hold for all of its citizens and most importantly, who should be held accountable. Mr. Mayor, we have an excellent City Council whose members strive in every way to make Newport Beach the outstanding city that it is. The development of the General Plan is the most important action taken by the Council and it is being done with care, with thoughtfulness and in collaboration with the citizenry as a whole. We all owe you our gratitude for this opportunity. Though I will not be an active participant, I will be greatly interested in the progress and outcome of GPAC.
