Please approve a budget amendment to appropriate funds to the following expenditure accounts: From Amount To 030.2248 $ 87,000 4010 -9000 31,050 4010 -8260 3,850 4060 -7020 $121,900 When appropriated the funds will be used as follows: Call number range signs at the end of the stacks will be replaced. New signage features a curved faced design with a removable lens. Signs can be updated in -house with message insert template software provided by the vendor. Easy to read signs will assist customers in finding books. fl. 3M Self Checkout Machine 30,000 The current 3M self - checkout machine was purchased when the library opened in 1994. Technology has improved greatly since then. Improved use of self - checkout will allow staff to devote more time to other areas of customer service. Ill. New York Times Database 4,500 The New York Times database provides coverage of the New York Times from 1851 - present, over 3.5 million pages in full -page image including graphics. The database will support the local school curriculum and customer requests for primary source historical materials. In the online version of the paper, searching is available by all indexed fields including subject, dates, and words within articles. IV. Additions to the Library's DVD Collection 10,000 The library developed a DVD collection in FY 2001/02 with funding from the Foundation and the Friends. The $10,000 would be used to purchase additional materials for the adult and juvenile collections. V. Materials - Children's Nonfiction 10.000 In FY 2001/02, a Foundation gift enabled Children's Librarians to begin replacing outdated nonfiction materials. The addition of $10,000 will enable the continuance of this program. The Central Library is the City facility with the highest public use with more than 1,000 customers each day. The library is in its ninth year of occupancy. New furniture will maintain the integrity of the facility. Twelve chairs will be purchased for the Charles Sword Room, and eight chairs will be purchased to replace the ten that are located in the Avocado Quiet Reading Area. Ottomans or footstools will also be purchased for these two reading areas. VII. Tolerance Proeram 5.000 The tolerance collection will include books for children, teens and adults. Subjects will cover but are not limited to, civil rights, multiculturalism, extremism, violence in youth and the Holocaust. VIII.
