SUBJECT: Nomination from Economic Development Committee
to Fill EDC Vacancies
SUGGESTED
ACTION: Appoint Gay Wassall -Kelly as Balboa Village representative and
Kevin Weeda as Lido District representative to fill vacancies on
the Economic Development Committee
The Economic Development Committee (EDC) nominated individuals to fill two vacancies at their
meeting of September 18, 2002.
The EDC nominated Gay Wassall -Kelly as the representative for Balboa Village. Ms. Wassall-
Kelly is the current chairperson of the Balboa Village Business Improvement District, and she and
her husband publish the Balboa Beacon. Ms. Wassall -Kelly lives in central Balboa.
Also nominated was Kevin Weeda, as the representative for the Lido District. Mr. Weeda is an
independent real estate developer and owner of CWI Development Company, and lives on Lido Isle.
His most prominent current project locally is "Cannery Lofts," a mixed -use loft development.
The EDC and staff believe both Ms. Wassall -Kelly and Mr. Weeda will be valuable additions to the
Committee. With these appointments there will be no vacancies on the Economic Development
Committee.

Fernando Valley (Toluca Lake), vacationed in Balboa since 1949 —
parents bought home in 1955. Dad was President of Balboa

Kevin Weeda is an independent real estate developer and owner of CWI
Development Company of Newport Beach, California. His firm specializes in
exclusive residential and commercial development in and around the Orange
County coastline.
Kevin has been in the construction and development business since 1978
beginning with a construction company and development of multi and single
family residential projects. He has recently specialized in high end waterfront
residential development particularly on Lido Isle, Linda Island, Balboa Peninsula
and Newport Coast.
Kevin is a member of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce and is an
active member of the Surfrider Foundation's 2002 Club, Orange County Chapter.
Kevin Weeda's current project is "Cannery Lofts" which is a luxury mixed -use loft
development in Cannery Village.
Kevin, his wife Katherine and daughter Makaela reside on Lido Isle. His office is
located in Cannery Village. His personal interests are surfing, skiing,
snowboarding, mountain biking and motor sports. He also pilots helicopters.
