SUBJECT: MAYOR'S APPOINTMENTS TO THE JULY 4TH WEST NEWPORT
SAFETY PLANNING COMMITTEE
RECOMMENDATION
Confirm the Mayor's appointment of Paul Watkins, Margie Dorney and Alan Silcock to
represent the West Newport Beach Association, and Craig Batley and Mary Bryant as
resident members on the July 41h West Newport Safety Planning Committee, whose
expertise would benefit the committee.
BACKGROUND
At the Regular Meeting of September 10, 2002 the City Council adopted Resolution No.
2002 -58 establishing a July 4th West Newport Safety Planning Committee to develop
and implement new ways of managing the celebrants and to bring more safety and
order to the July 4th holiday. At that time, Mayor Ridgeway appointed himself to serve
on the Committee with Council Member Proctor, who represents Council District #2.
Based on the discussions held at the meeting, Alan W. Silcock, President of the West
Newport Beach Association, made recommendations on the other appointees for the
Mayor and Council's consideration (copy of letter attached).
