SUBJECT: Purchase of Replacement Vehicle
Recommended Actions:
Approve the purchase of a replacement police patrol vehicle, associated equipment,
and setup costs in the amount of $29,800.
2. Approve a budget amendment transferring $29,800 from the unappropriated balance
of the Equipment Replacement Fund to Account No. 6120 -9100.
Background:
On September 18, a police patrol vehicle was involved in collision with a private vehicle
which did not yield to the patrol vehicle's lights and siren while crossing an intersection.
The vehicle, a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria (Unit #2009), sustained heavy damage to the left
rear quarter panel and frame. The unit, which had 37,650 miles on the odometer when
damaged, was placed into service in March 2001 and would have been replaced in FY 2003-
04. Without replacing this unit, the Patrol Division will have a deficit of patrol vehicles.
The City took delivery of five 2003 Ford Crown Victoria patrol cars in August. The vendor
who supplied the vehicles, Wondries Ford of Alhambra, is offering to sell us one more
vehicle at the same price.
The City will attempt to collect the replacement costs of the patrol unit, damaged
equipment, and setup costs from the insurance company of the other driver. Funds will be
deposited into the Equipment Replacement Fund if restitution is received.
Funding is available in the Internal Service Fund for a replacement vehicle. However, the
attached budget amendment is required for the vehicle purchase and associated costs.
