SUBJECT: BUDGET AMENDMENT TO ACCEPT A CHECK FROM CALIFORNIA
STATE LIBRARY AND APPROPRIATE FUNDS TO MAINTENANCE
AND OPERATIONS.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve a Budget Amendment in the amount of $10,643.
DISCUSSION:
The Newport Beach Public Library has been awarded $10,643 (State Funds
2003(04) for Public Library Staff Education (Award #40- 5914). The check will be
presented to City Council and deposited into revenue account 4010 -4834. These
funds pay the tuition of three current library employees who have been awarded a
scholarship by the California State Library to encourage the undertaking of graduate
library degrees. The three employees, Judilyn Ashley, Andrew Kachaturian and
Jennifer Nelson, are taking semester classes Fall '03 and Spring '04. This program,
which is targeted for current library employees throughout the state, is aimed at
reducing the shortage of librarians. One of our clerical employees, Melissa Hartson,
has completed the program and after open competition was hired as the new
Children's Librarian at the Mariners Library.
When appropriated funds will be used to augment Public Library Staff Education.
Please approve a budget amendment to appropriate the funds to the Maintenance &
Operations expenditure account as follows:
