I am here to support the greening of and by the City of Newport Beach.
Climate change is, of course, a global issue, but what local cities and individuals can
accomplish has been widely demonstrated. Situated by the ocean, still accommodating
new development and populated with citizens who want to help, Newport could and
should do more to create a more sustainable and safe community.
Much of the knowledge we need to do this is already available. We need the will and the
leadership to improve air and water quality, have more LEED - certified buildings, adopt a
climate action plan including seawalls, and find better ways to spread information about
waste recycling, resource consumption and local, clean transportation methods.
To be visibly responsible leaders, the council needs to make this a top priority.
