City Council approve a Budget Amendment BA _ increasing revenue estimates by $11,283.00 in 2355 -4894, and appropriating those funds into Fire Department account 2355 - 82001. DISCUSSION: In FY 2002, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced the availability of grant funding to enhance state and local emergency preparedness. The primary objective of the supplemental funding is to assist state and local governments in updating their Emergency Operations Plans (EOP) in order to address all hazards with special emphasis on Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) terrorism preparedness. This funding will assist the City of Newport Beach to upgrade its terrorism response, recovery, and coordination plans. The City will incorporate changes at the local, state, and federal levels regarding these issues. This will be accomplished through interdisciplinary coordination with various Orange County and planning groups. The City also participated in the May 2003 Risk Assessment exercise, fulfilling that FEMA requirement for this grant. In accordance with council policy, the Fire Department requests Council to accept this grant funding, and deposit funds into the Fire Department Emergency Management Division account 2355 - 82001.
