Badum 949 -644 -3311 sbadum@city.newport-beach.ca.us SUBJECT: RESOLUTION EXTENDING THE MARINERS JOINT USE LIBRARY AD HOC STEERING COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS: Adopt resolution No. 2005- adopting the extension of the Mariners Joint Use Library Ad Hoc Steering Committee. DISCUSSION: On January 28, 2003, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2003 -9 establishing the Mariners Joint Use Library Ad Hoc Steering Committee to oversee planning of the new library project. Since then the Committee has met regularly to oversee the project's budget, schedule, and various planning issues. The original project completion date was scheduled for September 2005. Delayed project approvals by the State Library Board and the recent re- bidding process have delayed the start of this project. If Council chooses to award the project, which is also being considered on this agenda, the anticipated public opening of the library will be in early March of 2006. Resolution No. 2003 -9, states the term of the Committee shall expire on June 30, 2004 unless extended by action of the City Council. In order to provide oversight and direction throughout construction of the project, it is recommended that the term be extended through the duration of the project.
