CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH CITY COUNCIL STAFF REPORT COUNCIL AGENDA NO. 3 3 -3,\ -3S Agenda Item No. 3 March 8, 2005 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: Public Works Department Antony Brine, P.E. 949 - 644 -3311 tbrine @city.newport- beach.ca.us SUBJECT: ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 12.40.055 OF THE NEWPORT BEACH MUNICIPAL CODE TO ALLOW PARKING OF EQUESTRIAN VEHICLES IN SANTA ANA HEIGHTS RECOMMENDATION: Introduce Ordinance No. 2005- amending Section 12.40.055 of the Newport Beach Municipal Code - Parking of Certain Oversized Vehicles and Nonmotorized Vehicles in Residential Districts Prohibited. 0 DISCUSSION: The new Ordinance would add an exception to the restricted parking or standing of large motor vehicles in a residential district, specifically allowing the parking of vehicles involved with the transportation of horses, in the Santa Ana Heights equestrian district, for a period not to exceed 72 hours. This exception includes any vehicle used for a variety of equestrian related issues, including detached trailers and other vehicles used for transporting horses, equipment and feed. The equestrian community in Santa Ana Heights requested this revision stating that the current 24 hour parking limit is too restrictive for their activities. The Assistant City Manager and the Police Department have worked with the community to draft the proposed revision, which has been reviewed and approved by the City Attorney's office and the Public Works Department.
