SUBJECT: BUDGET AMENDMENT TO ACCEPT A CHECK FROM THE FRIENDS
OF THE NEWPORT BEACH LIBRARY AND APPROPRIATE FUNDS TO
FY 2004/05 MARINERS LIBRARY PROJECT.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve a Budget Amendment to increase revenue estimates by $200,000 in Account
No. 450 -5892 (Library — Friends of the Library) and increase Mariners Library
expenditure estimates in 7451- C5100803 (Mariners Library Children's Room) by
$200,000.
DISCUSSION:
A gift from the Friends of the Newport Beach Public Library in the amount of $200,000,
approved by the Library Board of Trustees on January 18, 2005, has been received and
deposited. A facsimile of the original check will be presented to City Council on May 10.
This gift of $200,000 for the new Crean Mariners Library will be used to support the
construction of the Children's Room in the Crean Mariners Library. The entryway arch
will carry the name "Friends Children's Room" as illustrated in the attached print out.
The Friends have supported the new Crean Mariners Library with several gifts over the
past two years. Their total gifts to the new building now exceed $225,000.
