DISCUSSION: AD — 68 (Newport Shores) SCE's contractor Herman Weissker (HW) is planning on completing all underground infrastructure work and trench repavement by June 24, 2005. The community has voted to allow HW to work beyond the Memorial Day deadline. The City is scheduled to begin the reconstruction of Canal Street, 62nd Street, and Newport Shores Drive in the fall of 2006. On June 17, 2005 the City will be mailing out a notice to homeowners detailing the steps necessary for the conversion of the current overhead utility service to the new underground service. Residents will be allowed to pull Building Permits to begin the conversion once the letter has been mailed out. However, it may take the utilities up to a year to be able to cut over and energize all their customers to the new system. AD — 69 (West Newport) Herman Weissker has completed a portion of the work in this District for now and will pull off the job until after Labor Day. Trench repaving and miscellaneous concrete work on Lido Sands Drive continued through the first week of June. Work completed to date includes installation of mainline conduits and service stub -outs to individual residences from: • 33`d Street to 41 '` Street • 53 d Street to 61" Street 61" Street to Summit Street (Oceanfront Alley) • Lido Sands Drive SUBJECT: Assessment District No. 68 (Newport Shores) and Assessment District No. 69 (West Newport) Project Update June 14, 2005 Page 2 After Labor Day, HW will return to this District to finish installation of the mainline conduit and service stub -outs. On June 17, 2005 the City will be sending out a letter to the homeowners in the areas that have their stub -outs installed detailing the steps required to complete the conversion of the utility. However, since only a portion of this District has been constructed the homes that complete their conversion work now will have to wait until the remainder of the District is completed before they will be able to be cut -over to the new system. HW has requested that the City minimize additional construction projects in this area during the fall months so that they can complete the remaining underground work as quickly as possible. During the first half of this year the underground project has been coordinated with two other City contracts, which contributed to delays and extra costs. In addition HW reemphasized the importance of maintaining one person at the City as their main contact rather than multiple contacts which can lead to miscommunication and inefficiencies. These two items will help insure that this fall's work is completed on time and with minimal extras. Environmental Review: Not applicable for this report.
