HomeMy WebLinkAbout19 - Dispense Holding the August 28th MeetingCITY OF NEWPORT BEACH CITY COUNCIL STAFF REPORT Agenda Item 19 July 10, 2007 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: City Manager's Office Homer Bludau, City Manager 949/644 -3000 or hbludau @city.newport- beach.ca.us SUBJECT: Council Decision to Dispense Holding the August 28th Regular City Council Meeting ISSUE: Is the City Council willing to forego its regular August 28`" City Council meeting to provide a timeframe for the City Council and staff to take vacation time? RECOMMENDATION: Forego the regular August 28"' Council meeting. DISCUSSION: Background: August has become the most popular month to schedule vacations for families, with the approach of the school year starting the following month. The work load on both the City Council and City staff over this past year has been intense, with the City Council tackling many important City issues, attending many Council committee meetings and staff trying to juggle many priorities. The City Manager believes it would be good for the whole organization to "go dark" the second meeting in August to allow for vacations to be taken and to provide a break in the regular City Council meeting schedule cycle. The City Manager feels there will not be City business so critical that foregoing the August 28th City Council meeting will adversely affect important City business. Foregoing the August 28U' meeting would result in no regular City Council meeting between the August 14U' and September 11th regular City Council meetings. Environmental Review: The City Council's approval of this Agenda Item does not require environmental review. Public Notice: This agenda item may be noticed according to the Brown Act (72 hours in advance of the public meeting at which the City Council considers the item).
