SUBJECT: ADOPT A RESOLUTION TO POST A STOP SIGN FOR NORTHBOUND
ORANGE STREET AT CANAL STREET
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt a Resolution for the installation of a STOP sign to require northbound Orange
Street traffic to stop at Canal Street.
DISCUSSION:
Currently, northbound Orange Street traffic at Canal Street is controlled with a YIELD
sign while eastbound and westbound traffic is uncontrolled. At the request of residents
within the Newport Shores community, the City reviewed the intersection. A STOP at
this location would better control right -of -way, reduce the amount of non - yielding
vehicles, and improve safety.
Removal of YIELD control and installation of STOP control for the northbound Orange
Street at Canal Street is recommended by staff.
Environmental Review:
Categorically Exempt under Chapter 3, Article 19, Section 15301, Class 1(c) of Title 14,
California Code of Regulations. Exemption is for minor alteration of existing facilities
not expanding existing uses.

RESOLUTION NO. 2007 -
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH TO POST STOP CONTROL FOR
NORTHBOUND ORANGE STREET AT CANAL STREET
WHEREAS, Section 12.36.010 of the Newport Beach Municipal Code
provides that whenever any ordinance or resolution of this City designates and
describes any intersection at which vehicles are required to stop at one or more
entrances thereto, the City Traffic Engineer shall erect and maintain STOP signs
at those entrances of each intersection where a stop is required; and
WHEREAS, it has been determined that there is a need to stop
northbound traffic on Orange Street at Canal Street.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Newport Beach, that the following described location is hereby designated as an
intersection where northbound vehicles are required to stop:
Orange Street at Canal Street
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Traffic Engineer is hereby
directed to erect and maintain all necessary signs at the above locations.
