SUBJECT: BUDGET AMENDMENT TO ACCEPT A CHECK FROM THE FRIENDS
OF THE NEWPORT BEACH LIBRARY AND APPROPRIATE FUNDS TO
EXPENDITURE BUDGET ACCOUNTS FOR FY 2005/06.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve a Budget Amendment to increase revenue estimates by $14,213 in Account
No. 4010 -5892 (Library — Friends of the Library) and increase expenditure estimates by
the same amount in Division 4091 (Friends).
DISCUSSION:
A gift from the Friends of the Newport Beach Public Library in the amount of $14,213
approved by the Library Board of Trustees on April 18, 2006 has been received and
deposited into Division 4091.
This gift is specifically designated for the expansion of the Local History Room at the
Central Library and the book replacement program at the new Donna and John Crean
Mariners Branch Library.
We will place cabinets and chairs in what used to be the copy room on the second floor
of the Central Library. This area has no windows and is an excellent area to place
fragile material, including the Friends historical materials. Current local history is housed
in the sunny study room. We want the furniture to be of a quality which matches
existing built in cabinets and have selected Yamada as our vendor. The Library would
purchase a plaque similar to other Central Library plaques to acknowledge the donation
which funds this room.
Mariners Library needs to replace children's books. A number of items in the new joint
use library are badly out of date. We believe they should be replaced as soon as
possible.
The entire donation will be used to improve Library Services in the M &O expenditure
accounts as indicated below.
