Today, it is the oldest re- maining club of its type in Newport Beach. The Exchange Club of Newport Harbor began on December 16, 1926 as a business luncheon club. Members of the charter club were the city's most influential entrepreneurs. L.L. Isabel, Theodore Robins, Dr. Gordon Grundy, and Chief of Police Hodgkinson were some of our club's founders. q Over the years, it has grown into one of the premier groups in Newport Today's membership is a hard working group of men, dedicated to the nis, y proje tj and suppoa our comet 1 rty, EXCHANGE e NEWPORT CLUB 01 HARBOR Each year the Exchange Club of Newport Harbor presents a Field of Honor recognizing the service of the men and women of the American military forces. The field consists of 1,776 large American flags proudly displayed along the paths of beautiful Castaways Park in Newport Beach overlooking the Newport Back Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Each flag may be dedicated in honor of a person who has served in any branch of the American military either currently or in the past, in peacetime or in times of combat. We have been honored to have flags dedicated to soldiers as far back as the American Revolutionary War and for most periods since. The name of the Honoree is attached to a ribbon and placed on the flagpole along with any photos or other memorabilia that the Donor who dedicated the flag wishes to add. The flags are on display for several days over the Armed Forces Day weekend which is the third Saturday in May. At the end of the event, each dedicated flag may be claimed by the donor to proudly display at their home or busi- ness. Event sponsors that are entitled to multiple flags according to the amount of their donation may collect the flags for display at their business or distribute them along with their Certificate of Authenticity to their employees or customers. They may also donate the flags to any charity or organization of their choice. All of the net proceeds from the event are distributed to organizations that support military families as well as other local community charities.
