There's a struggle to find the balance between growth & maintaining quality of life. There is a perception cited by residents that the City needs to prioritize arts & culture in a substantive way. Major Findings, continued There is a desire to balance development of commercial & residential units with spaces dedicated to the arts. Residents applaud efforts to highlight what is unique to Newport Beach and move forward with a Master Plan for Arts as a sign of the City's cultural maturity. Plan's Recommendations I. Grow public investment in arts and culture. Form a task force to review City's funding & make recommendations Establish an appropriately staffed Division of Arts and Culture. Issue an RFP for consultant to work implementing the Master Arts Plan recommendations. 3. Establish arts - friendly City policies. Develop a 21St Century Arts and Culture Communications Plan. Form subcommittee of Arts Commission, staff & marketing pros to recommend strategies. S. Animate public spaces with unique programming, events & festivals. 9. Establish key partnerships that support arts education. 10. Include aesthetic considerations in City processes that review / approve public and private development.
