HomeMy WebLinkAbout07 - Stop Signs at Carnation & Seaview IntersectionCITY OF NEWPORT BEACH CITY COUNCIL STAFF REPORT Agenda Item No. 7 October 24, 2006 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: Public Works Department Brad Sommers 949 -644 -3326 or bsommers @city.newport- beach.ca.us SUBJECT: ADOPT RESOLUTION FOR THE INSTALLATION OF STOP SIGNS AT THE CARNATION AVENUE AND SEAVIEW AVENUE INTERSECTION RECOMMENDATION: Adopt a Resolution for the installation of STOP signs at the Carnation Avenue and Seaview Avenue intersection. DISCUSSION: Residents near the Carnation Avenue and Seaview Avenue intersection have requested installation of STOP control. The residents have safety concerns with vehicles continuing through the intersection to a private, dead -end street. Carnation Avenue at Seaview Avenue is currently an uncontrolled 'T' intersection. Posting of all -way STOP control is recommended. The proposed STOP installation will require signing and striping on the private road. Environmental Review: Categorically Exempt under Chapter 3, Article 19, Section 15301, Class.1(c) of Title 14, California Code of Regulations. Badum PuWd Works Director RESOLUTION NO. 2006 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH TO POST STOP CONTROL AT THE CARNATION AVENUEISEAVIEW AVENUE INTERSECTION WHEREAS, Section 12.36.010 of the Newport Beach Municipal Code provides that whenever any ordinance or resolution of this City designates and describes any intersection at which vehicles are required to stop at one or more entrances thereto, the City Traffic Engineer shall erect and maintain STOP signs at those entrances of each intersection where a stop is required; and WHEREAS, it has been determined that there is a need for all -way STOP control at the intersection of Carnation Avenue and Seaview Avenue. . NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach, hereby designates that all vehicles are required to STOP at the Carnation Avenue and Seaview Avenue intersection: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Traffic Engineer is hereby directed to erect and maintain all necessary signs at the above locations.
