The Purpose: To create and develop more "open space" in the Cliff Haven
Community and Newport Beach.
The Objective: To create a low profile, low maintenance, "natural" open
space park like the Castaways.
The Goal: To create an environmentally safe place for people to walk, sit
and enjoy nature.
Cliff Haven, one of the oldest developed neighborhoods in Newport
Beach, is comprised of over 360 family homes.
Located on a cliff above the Balboa Bay Club and the Pacific Coast
Highway, it's a quiet family- oriented community with no sidewalks or
street lights.
The people living in Cliff Haven are friendly, they know their neighbors
and take pride in their community.
This proposal is to develop a "natural open space" park on the corner
of Cliff Drive and Kings Place. The triangular- shaped parcel would be a
challenge to uniformly build a home. And the owner is interested in selling
the land.
The Newport Beach Parks and Recreation has given its undivided
approval to create a natural open - space, low- maintenance park like the
Castaways.
On behalf of the Cliff Haven Community, I would like to propose the
city buy the land and, as a community, we will create and build the park.
