SUBJECT: BUDGET AMENDMENT TO ACCEPT A CHECK FROM THE NEWPORT
BEACH LIBRARY FOUNDATION AND APPROPRIATE FUNDS FOR
FY 2007/2008 EXPENDITURE ACCOUNTS.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve a Budget Amendment to increase revenue estimates by $293,000 in Account
No. 4090 -5893 (Library Foundation Donations) and increase expenditure estimates by
the same amount in Division 4090 (Foundation).
DISCUSSION:
A check from the Newport Beach Public Library (NBPL) Foundation in the amount of
$293,000, approved by the Board of Library Trustees on March 18, 2008, will be
presented to City Council. The entire donation will be deposited into 4090 -8260 and
4090 -9006 expenditure accounts as outlined below.
The Newport Beach Public Library received a gift from an anonymous donor of
$500,000 in three increments, approved by the Library Board of Trustees on April 17,
2007. The third and final gift of $168,000 was received and is included in this check
from the Foundation. This gift is restricted by the donor for the purchase of Central
Library materials and with the understanding that there would be no fiscal impact on the
library budget.
The Newport Beach Public Library Foundation has pledged $225,000 to cover the costs
of the new professional services agreement with Millennium Integrated Library System.
Their second and final donation of $125,000 towards that pledge makes up the balance
of this check from the Foundation. An Integrated Library System (ILS) is automation
software designed to integrate all the data and processes of a library into a unified
system. The contract includes base software, project management, hardware and
software setup, training, implementation consulting, data loading, support and
documentation.
