Discussion: On December 11, 2007, the City Council received a check from the Friends of the Newport Beach Library to retain professional services to investigate the feasibility of making renovations to the Central Library circulation area and Friends Bookstore. Staff authorized Landworks Development Services to coordinate and implement the design and estimating of conceptual plans for a remodel to the Friends of the Library Bookstore to increase the size of the bookstore and also make improvements to current access for employees and customers. Landworks provided a proposal for project management services dated October 29, 2007, and was authorized only to complete the conceptual design and cost estimating portion of the work. The conceptual design and subsequent construction costs are now completed and has been approved by the Friends of the Library (Friends). The Friends deem this as a viable project and funding for the construction costs will be provided by its fundraising efforts. An amendment to the agreement with Landworks Development Services is needed to provide for final design, permitting and processing services for this project.
