SUBJECT: Council Decision to Dispense Holding the August 26`h Regular City
Council Meeting
ISSUE:
Is the City Council willing to forego its regular August 26t' City Council meeting in order to
provide a timeframe for the City Council and staff to take vacation time?
RECOMMENDATION:
Forego the regular August 261h Council meeting.
DISCUSSION:
Background: August has become the most popular month to schedule vacations for families,
given the approach of the school year starting the following month. The City Manager believes
it would be good for the whole organization to "go dark" the second meeting in August to allow
for vacations to be taken and to provide a break in the regular City Council meeting schedule
cycle.
The intense work load on both the City Council and City staff over this past year has had the
City Council tackling many important and time consuming issues and staff juggling many
priorities and daily operational issues. The recent results of the Customer Satisfaction Survey
showed the Council and staff have been very successful in attending to the City's business in
the opinions of our residents.
The City Manager believes there will not be City business so critical that foregoing the August
26th City Council meeting will adversely affect important City business. Not holding the August
26`h City Council meeting would result in no regular City Council meeting between the August
12th and September 91h regular City Council meetings. There is always the opportunity to call
and notice a special City Council meeting if the need arises.
Environmental Review: The City Council's approval of this Agenda Item does not require
environmental review.
Public Notice: This agenda item may be noticed according to the Brown Act (72 hours in
advance of the public meeting at which the City Council considers the item).
