SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION TO PURCHASE OFFICE FURNITURE
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve an expenditure of $40,437.86 to purchase replacement office furniture
for the Police Department's Administrative Offices.
2. Authorize the single - source purchase from Corporate Business Interiors, the
Police Department's current provider of office furniture.
DISCUSSION:
Several areas of the Police Department are in need of moderate rehabilitation to
improve a variety of ergonomic functions as well as office workspace dynamics and
general appearances. The offices of the Police Chiefs Administrative Assistant, the
Executive Officer, and the Support Services Commander operate with standard desk
configurations, which lack contemporary ergonomic benefits. Refurbishment of these
areas will provide continuity consistent with other rehabilitated areas of the facility. As
part of the refurbishment, the office furniture in these offices requires replacement due
to poor ergonomic configuration and general wear.
Corporate Business Interiors has provided the office furniture used in previous office
refurbishments throughout the building. The furniture will be interchangeable with other
office furniture, based on the needs of the Department. The furniture provided has been
of superior quality, and the service provided by the vendor has been exceptional. Quick
and responsive service is vital to this project to avoid unnecessary displacement of key
personnel during the refurbishment process.

The cost of furniture for all three offices totals $40,437.86. This includes ergonomically
designed desks and credenzas for all offices and additional file storage cabinets for the
office of the Administrative Assistant.
Funding Availability: The funding for this purchase is allocated in the FY 2009 Capital
Improvement Program Budget (7011- C1002004 and 7011- C1002013).
