HomeMy WebLinkAboutS30 - Declaring the Existence of a Local EmergencyRESOLUTION NO. 2008 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH DECLARING THE EXISTENCE OF A LOCAL EMERGENCY IN THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH WHEREAS, beginning on October 13, 2008, at 3:10 p.m. a wildland fire originated and spread in Bonita Canyon area endangering adjacent homes and San Joaquin Hills Reservoir, and WHEREAS, a high winds event contributed to the fire intensity and damaged structures, overhead lines, and other equipment; and Due to the aforesaid facts, there is extreme peril to the safety of persons and property with the City of Newport Beach, NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Newport Beach does hereby resolve as follows: 1. A Local Emergency as defined in the California Government Code §8558(c), exists within the geographic area of the City of Newport Beach. The City Council shall review, at least every 14 days until such Local Emergency is terminated, the need for continuing the Local Emergency at the earliest possible date that conditions warrant. 2. The City Manager and the Fire Chief, by virtue of their designations as Director and Deputy Director, respectively, of Civil Defense/Emergency Services under Newport Beach Municipal Code Chapter 2.20, are hereby designated as the authorized representatives of the City of Newport Beach for purposes of receipt, processing, and coordination of all inquiries and requirements necessary to obtain such private, state and federal assistance as may be available. 3. All City Departments and agencies shall take those actions, measures and steps deemed necessary to assure the safety and welfare of Newport Beach residents and property, including requesting mutual aid to the extent such aid is necessary.
