SUBJECT: BUDGET AMENDMENT TO ACCEPT A CHECK FROM THE CROWLEY
FAMILY FOUNDATION AND APPROPRIATE FUNDS FOR
MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS BUDGET FOR FY 2009110.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve a Budget Amendment to increase revenue estimates by $7,500 in Account No.
4010 -5901 (Private Donations and Contributions) and to increase expenditure
appropriations in 4093 (Designated Gifts) accounts by the same amount due to the
receipt of funds from the Crowley Family Foundation.
DISCUSSION:
A check to the Newport Beach Public Library dated November 1, 2009 from The
Crowley Family Foundation in the amount of $7,500 was accepted by the Board of
Library Trustees on December 15, 2009. The Board of Directors of the Crowley Family
Foundation voted to donate the funds to the Balboa Branch Library in memory of
Joseph and Charlotte Crowley, whose children, grandchildren and extended family have
enjoyed using this library since its beginning to the current day. A copy of the letter and
check are attached. The amount will be deposited into 4093 expenditure accounts as
specified below:
4093 -8012 (Programming) for children's programs at Balboa Br Lib $2,500.
4093 -8260 (Library Materials) for children's collection at Balboa Br Lib $5,000.

SUBJECT: 2009 Crowley Family Foundation Donation
Dear Ms. Cowell:
It is my pleasure to inform you that on October 25, 2009 the Board of Directors of the Crowley
Family Foundation voted to donate $7,500.00 to the Balboa Branch of the Newport Beach
Public Library System and our check is enclosed with this letter. This donation is given in
memory of Joseph and Charlotte Crowley, whose children, grandchildren and extended family
have enjoyed using this library since its beginning to the current day.
It is the understanding of Board President Susan Richards, who spoke with you by phone on
October 5, 2009, that these monies can be earmarked specifically for the Balboa Branch and
can be allocated as follows:
• $5,000.00 for new juvenile non - fiction materials, in various formats, e.g. cds, videos, books,
etc. with donor - plates acknowledging Joseph and Charlotte Crowley, and
• $2,500.00 for juvenile special programming, e.g., summer reading programs, which will
acknowledge the sponsorship of Joseph and Charlotte Crowley.
In time, we look forward to hearing from you about the selections and implementation of our gift.

Since this is the final year for our family's foundation, we kindly request that you deposit these
funds no later than November 30, 2009. In addition, please send an acknowledgement of this
donation to my attention at the address listed above.
